So, all the crap with North Carolina DID actually get me thinking. The sad thing is that deep down inside, I knew this was going to be the result. Does that make me sad? Sure. Do I wish things had turned out differently? Obviously. But the truth of the matter is that hate is alive and well in Conservative America. I wish that I could say that this was just some isolated thing and that the results were close – but having seen the state map, it was pretty overwhelming that folks came out to the polls specifically to keep us “in our place”. The fucked up part is that not only were they banning gay marriage – but since it was already illegal, they were just whipping the existing law out of their pants and smacking us in the face with it a few times to remind us that it was there.
It’s fucking idiotic.
Regardless, I do think that bringing Amendment 1 to the table was specifically designed to drive some focus onto the “Great Gay Debate”. Be ready folks – because the upcoming year is going to be fucking rocky and agitating. Let me prepare you for what we have in store: Every “expert” and their brother is going to weigh in on the pros and cons of our lifestyle, our relationships, and they’re going to compare us to rapists, pedophiles, and pig-fuckers. People are going to be divided and we’re going to have to endure more bullshit hate-speech than ever before, because we’re close to having an honest to god gay revolution – and when a revolution is opposed by the bible belt, they’re sure to get vocal.
This is NOT going to be an enjoyable time. And the truth of the matter is that with this being an election year – it pisses me off to no end that my life and the way that I live it may very well shape the future of our nation. That’s kinda fucked. And for those who are saying that Obama is pulling a “too little, too late” and that it’s just a bullshit campaign strategy for him to suddenly back gay marriage? I’m gonna be honest and tell you that if it is: I question his judgment. The fact of the matter is that if Obama somehow loses the election – I would prefer that it was due to people taking issue with the things that he has or hasn’t done over the past four years. I would prefer that it was due to ANYTHING other than the fact that he believes in the love that my partner and I share.
Seriously.
The Conservative Americans are like a big-ass playground bully, using the fact that they were raised by their drunken, abusive Bible as an excuse to pick on those people that are “smaller” than them. We have a chance to rally up and put that bully in his face… to pop him in the nose and let him know we mean business. But will that happen? It’s hard to say… and it will be painful to live with the hurt of feeling as though the country that we live in has turned against us.
It’s ridiculous to feel like a war is brewing… but it kinda does sometimes, doesn’t it?
Despite all that – I’m doing my best to stay OUT of political discussions as much as possible. Everyone has a right to their opinions, especially when it comes to things which we’re all passionate about. The best thing I can say is – I hope that within every Facebook argument or drunken shouting match – we can all take a step back and acknowledge that we need to be heard and we have a right to equality.
But oy – I didn’t intend to do a major political-speech here… but sometimes that’s just what comes out, eh?
In other news (yes, seriously), I’m throwing out the reminder that I’m still in the ComicMix NSFW Tourney. Somehow, magically (and through donations), I moved on to the next round and am in the Top 16. The thing is, there are some people who are claiming that because money was spent in order to win me enough votes to move on – but win wasn’t a “real” win, so much as a “bought” win. And you know what: they’re right!
Here’s a fact, though… If I go up against a mainstream-style straight pervy comic, their reader-base is likely to be excessively larger than mine. I have over 1400 likes on Facebook. I get over 800 unique users visiting my site on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Are those numbers AMAZING? No. But when you look at the fact that I’m drawing a comic that tends to be for fat, hairy gay people and the dudes that love them – it seems fan-fucking-tastic. So, you know what? If you feel like donating to get me extra votes? Do it. If you feel like donating to me personally? Do it (links to the right). If you feel like buying me a beer at Bear Pride? Do it (no roofies).
Just vote if you can/haven’t – and try to rally me some more “legit” votes as well, where-ever or however you can!

For what it is worth, my bf and I live in GA and soon to move back to NC, we Support Gay marriage, and are quite vocal about it. I don’t understand what someone else’s love life, sex life, married life and so on has to do with politics.
And what ever happened to the separation of church and state? Or the pursuit of happiness?
It’s going to be tough for everyone. For those that simply wish to live their lives as everyone else is able to, to those that support them.
The household we are moving into, is NOT for gay marriage, in fact he’s so right wing [is that correct?] that he’s a radical. God Forbid if someone supports anything he does not. [and yes he is one of the biggest racists, close minded awful hypocrites I've ever met] But I’m very stubborn, verbal. An f’n b@#ch in his mind so..yeah this will be interesting.
So, again, for what it is worth, There are people who very much support gay marriages, who will also speak up, who will fight for the sames rights you and yours should have like everyone else.
But another quick note here….I find it…interesting that some of those that oppose gay marriages, not that long ago, also had to fight for their rights too, gender, races…yanno…that sort of thing.
My how soon we forget.
Panel 2 takes me to the “way back” machine, when there used to be a paranoid rumor around the only decent adult bookstore in Vermont that you needed to be careful what glory hole you stuck your dick into, considering there was some sick “straight” fuck burning guys with a lighter.
Remember boys: finger swipe through the hole first. Never your dick.
Me and my partner are getting ready to move to NC, from Seattle. Yup, that’s right from a state where gay marriage is legal to….well I don’t really know what.
@petebone I grew up in NC and escaped over twenty years ago. I’m not going to lie to you. Going to most places in NC is like stepping back in time 50 years or more. That said, there are some decent places – mostly around Raleigh or Asheville. I’ve personally vowed to spend as little time as possible there, but at the same time I know that the people aren’t going to change on their own; they need to be exposed directly to people that don’t share their tiny little world view. I wish you the best of luck.
@Bob – Well, I’m here because of the ComicMix contest. I investigated the strips with which I was unfamiliar and yours is one of the ones that I added to my read list. Hopefully the contest brought you other readers as well!
Back in 1986 we came up against something similar … no, it wasn’t similar, it was intimate, humiliating, a threat to the body. Despite everything, that woundwas healed.
Now is another hour for patience and heroism. It won’t be the last. But I am 50 years old, and I never thought this issue would see public discussion in my lifetime. Not in 100 years. The curve of the Universe is sometimes sharper than we expect, and yet it still bends toward justice.
I have an aunt in NC that parrots the stupid “Obama was born in Kenya” birther BS, so I’m not surprised that this crap passed with a huge majority vote. .
As a current resident of NC (not originally from here, thank God!), this law was not only just about banning gay marriage. There is law already doing so. It was about taking away rights. It was also written so vague that it can potentially take away rights to unmarried people, gay or straight. It was marketed as a gay rights issue so bigots will vote for the amendment. If you look at the map on how counties in NC voted, anywhere a major institution of higher education is located those are the ones who voted against the amendment (i.e. Durham – Duke U, Orange – UNC-CH, Wake – NCSU etc.) These country God fearing folks throw their Bibles at us, we should throw some scholarly text books so they can get some sense. Who is with me?
It is always so many steps forward and then sliding back, like climbing up the sand dunes at Sleeping Bear State Park.
In 1974 I was a college freshman, it was only a year earlier in 1973, that “homosexuality” was finally NOT a legal medical/psychological diagnosis. Until then it was legal to put your teenage child in a mental ward and dunk them in ice water, shock there brains with electricity and shock there genitals for being aroused by same-sex porn.
So as bleak as it may seem, there has been some progress, but at a snails pace it is hard to take. Another perspective, in my lifetime, it was illegal for interacial marriage, now we just have to redefine it again to include everybody.
As I recall, from past visits, NC DOES have a much higher number of glory hole pissoirs than Lets’ get-married legal in Connecticut does. The guillotine idea may be right to the point.
Oh, and I just voted for Blur the Lines. Good luck
