In the interest of keeping the comics flowing, today’s comic was a bit of a special little filler that I wanted to do for a friend. Someone I know recently released the an App called “Treasure Sails” which is available for both Apple and Android devices. So far, I’ve had a good bit of fun playing through the little puzzles and it seems to have tapped the “addictive games you know you shouldn’t be playing as long as you are” market. Granted – I downloaded it while I was at work, so that might NOT be the best time for you to load it up, but it’s definitely a game worth the 99 cents. For me, the 8-bit graphic style of it just feels like home and filled a bit of a void that I had for the old Nintendo games that used to hold way too much of my attention.
So, try it out if you like – give it a download, and let me assure you that one of the designers is an extremely woofy bearman who I’m sure most of you would gladly slip a dollar bill into the digital g-string of.
And after having fought through my recent illness, I really pushed to have a comic done today by my own hand – just to get back into the swing of things. So I sketched, inked, and then I get home and come to find that my scanner is FUCKED. So trying to scan my images at a good resolution in Black and White are out… so I’m left with my camera. So, today’s comic was pictures that I took of my inks – filtered to an insane degree… and of course, because of this – I don’t get nice crisp lines… I get hazy lines that are near impossible to fill in. Fucking yay.
So, I guess this weekend I’m going to have to go out and see what I can find as far as scanners go – because despite everyone’s suggestions to just get used to inking on the tablet – it doesn’t feel right. I don’t mind coloring or the rest with it – but if I were to switch to inking with my tablet, I’d only be doing one comic a week, because my tablet just doesn’t offer the line consistency I want at the size that I have (4×6 drawing surface). But I think we’ve already gone over this before, haven’t we? I know, I’m being defensive… but I just got over being sick, so cut me a little slack.
Apart from all this – I ate a full lunch AND a full dinner today. I’ve never been SO damn happy to have an appetite again! Eating a cup full of macaroni and saying “wow – that was just TOO much” is fucking embarrassing… and confusing… so I really needed to move past that.
Now to just focus on STAYING healthy, right?
That’s why I bought me my Flintstone’s Vitamins. Don’t judge. I don’t swallow pills well… and the Flintstone’s are just as delicious as you remember them being when you were a child… I could eat handfuls of them.
But that would be bad.
Musn’t eat a handful of Dinos as dessert tonight. No. Bad. Stop it.
Fin.

Glad your feeling better. You may want to try a scanning wand, they are cheaper than a full sized scanner and can do about any sized page.
GREAT strip! Awesome job on Frank as a pirate! I really laughed out loud on this one. Scared our dog even! Not sure where you’re located, but I am pretty sure I know multiple people with scanners that are not being used around Austin. I’m happy to help rustle one up and ship it to you. Drop me a note via the email I used to comment. HUGS! Nakia
Product placement on my fav web comic? I paid for it with out even trying it! Thats the power you wield my friend… Also doesn’t hurt that its a $1 micro transaction… but still!
Also, since you are talking about inking and stuff, you should do another filler episode with “The Making of Blur the Lines”. I wanna know, and see, how you do it. Do you start off with pencil, and then move it to a digital format to correct lines and “ink” it? And then color it in gimp or “shop”? And how about a story about how you got started in the first place. From, “hey, this seems like a good idea” to “how the fuck to I get this online and how do I get subscribers!?” to “is anyone really going to read this other than my friends” to “WTF, I have soooo many subscribers! YAY!”
