A Bad Case of the Memes

So for those who aren’t familiar with the concept of a meme:

meme (pron.: /ˈmm/meem) is “an idea, behavior or style that spreads from person to person within a culture.”

That came from Wikipedia, by the way – so credit where credit is due. Regardless, if you find yourself on any form of social media, I’m sure that you’re familiar with at least one if not ALL of the memes represented in the above comic.

Now, it’s worth mentioning that I have no real problem with memes in general… in fact, I tend to find them funny FAR longer than would be consider “cool”. That includes things like Gangnam Style and Let’s have a Kiki – which I still listen to and I can own that. In fact, upon writing that, I had to hit youtube and get some Scissor Sisters going.

I know, I know. Judge me accordingly.

There is another fun part of this strip which is the fact that I had to ask permission to make the political joke at Drew’s expense. I know, you’d think by this time Mike would be used to me just airing all our shit online, but really – he knows that I hate when he takes me past my “political threshold”. I have a finite amount of space in my brain that can be taken up with the same discussions about how much the Republican Party sucks or how the wealthiest 1% is destroying America.

I’m aware of where we stand and how fucked up our country is and until someone starts the revolution and I can finally dig my torches and pitch-forks out of the closet – I’d just rather not spend any of my free time dwelling on the negatives. If I live my life and am happy for a majority of it? I win.

Oh yes and for the record: I am aware that TBRU is right around the corner… For those who missed it – I will not be attending and despite having mentioned that before, I still continue to get messages from people who keep saying “look forward to seeing you!” Well… umm… I look forward to seeing you as well! I’ll look at the pictures and wave at them and shout “hello!!!” Then I’ll get SUPER rage-bitchy about how you didn’t wave back and you just treated me like I wasn’t there.

That’ll show ya!

Evil!

I’m on the opposite of that political spectrum. My husband blathers on about how all liberals are socialists and how Democrats are ruining America and like you, at some point, I’m just like, “Babe, you need to talk to someone else about this because I… just don’t care.”

  2. Wolfie

Okay… first panel… took me a second look to see Drew as Grumpy cat! Well played, Bob! :-)

  3. Ches

    This is FUCKING BRILLIANT.

  4. Jack

This is so great—-the most annoying, common memes! You captured it perfectly!!!

  5. Ingonyama

I almost wish Rick had done Boromir: “One does not simply say no to Facebook.”

    Mmm, beardy Sean Bean.

    …What? He’s still a bear.

  6. Scruff

This is brilliance. Drew’s face in the first panel has me in tears.

  7. Jim

    Love this strip!

  8. Sanjay

    Drew-as-Picard is pretty hot….

  9. sjpoodle

I recognize all the memes, except Rick in a vest with dildos [1st panel] . Who is that? i may be hanging with the wrong facebook folks.
